Imagine you discover this beautiful mountain: the tallest of all around, it’s summit’s bare during the summer, and covered in snow during winter time.

Simultaneously beautiful and frightening, would you like to climb it? I would, for sure. The view from up there must be breathtaking!

Choosing My Mountains

Last month, I spent every early morning for a week walking and hiking back in nature’s grounds, soaking in the sound of birds waking up for the new day, enjoying the smell of wet grass, and stopping to appreciate the view when the sun finally shone its light.

During one of these stops, I took the picture above: it’s Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal.

This mountain reminds me of the learning journey I’ve embarked on into DevOps: there is so much to grasp, and I’m early on the path to climb these steep mountains, to enjoy the view from up there, to understand and recreate the things experienced engineers can do.

Finding The Path To Follow

Mountain climbing is hard, and this will be a challenging endeavor. But through challenge comes growth.

Experienced climbers can pass you by with ease, as they’ve been doing this for a long time. And to make matters worst, you almost want to give up at the first hardships.

If you’re in good company, they’ll wait for you to recover your breath, encouraging you to keep going, as it’ll get easier soon. Next time you’ll do better.

And at each mountaintop you’ll conquer, the sense of achievement will be exhilarating. Your community will be there to celebrate with you.

Learning And Sharing As A Community

As for me, I won’t be doing this all alone. I’ve searched for others willing to learn new and hard things. I’ve found beginners, just like myself, and experienced climbers that want to share the knowledge they’ve gathered on their own path.

So here begins my quest: Climbing Mountains Into The Cloud.
